How to Program a Sprinkler Control Timer

    • 1). Set the correct time of day on the timer. Rotate the dial to the "Set Date & Time" position. On more complex timers, the month will flash on the display. Press the plus and minus buttons until the correct month shows and then press "Next." The day of the month will now appear on the display. Again, use the plus and minus buttons to bring up the correct day and press "Next." Continue this concept with the year, hour and minutes.

    • 2). Enter your zip code. This is going to allow a complex sprinkler control timer to adjust its settings based on historical weather data, such as humidity values for February based on your zip code. Rotate the dial to the "Configure Controller" position. The first digit will be flashing. Enter the first numeral of your zip code using the plus and minus buttons, and press "Next." Enter the rest of the zip code using the same process.

    • 3). Enter your allowed watering days. The sprinkler control timer can take into account days your municipality doesn't allow watering---in droughts, for example. Again, use the plus and minus buttons to select the appropriate days of the week.

    • 4). Input your zone programming. This is where you input information specific to the zone you are programming for days of the week and times of the day to begin and end watering. For example, a zone on your property with sandy soil can be programmed to allow for slightly longer or shorter watering times compared to another zone with more clayey soil. Rotate the dial to the "Input Zone Information" and select the zone number. Press "Next" and select "Enable." Select the sprinkler type method, again using the same concept of plus and minus buttons and the "Next" button. Continue programming through soil selection, slope angle, plant types, shade factor, density and plant maturity.

    • 5). Review the zone programming. The display will provide a synopsis of your programming steps. Press "Accept."

    • 6). Rotate the dial to "Auto" and the sprinkler system should water your property perfectly to your specifications.
