Youth Activities in Detroit, Michigan

    Detroit Science Center

    • The Detroit Science Center offers several activities for kids. One example is the Science Center Going Green camp for students in grades one through eight as of spring 2010. The camp lasts for a total of five days but students may register for however many of the five days they would like to participate. During the camp, they will learn how to preserve the environment through hands-on activities appropriate for each respective age group.

      The Science Center also hosts camp-ins for youth, which feature, such themes as Eekstein's Engineering Adventures, Magic Mystery Night and Science Spectacular, all of which include a film in the Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre. The camp-ins last from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. and are scheduled throughout the year.

    Detroit Institute of Art

    • If parents would rather stimulate the left side of their children's brain, they might consider enrolling them in a class at the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA). DIA schedules art camps throughout the summer for kids ages five to 12. Although the camps vary depending on the age group, all ages create masterpieces with paint, clay, paper and more.

    Think Detroit PAL

    • Maybe rather than stimulate the right brain or the left brain, parents would just like to see their children burn off some of the surplus energy seeping from their very pores. Think Detroit PAL, an organization formed from the union of the Police Athletic League and Think Detroit, Inc. offers an excellent assortment of sports, including volleyball, football, basketball, soccer, baseball, track and field and cheerleading.
