How to Make a Belt from a Necktie

- 1). Turn your necktie over and use your scissors to carefully pick out approximately 16 inches of the stitching at the center back of the tie. Do this to the widest point of the tie.
- 2). Remove any interfacing or stiffening fabric from the tie.
- 3). Place your tie on the ironing board. Turn it sideways, so that the remaining stitches still in the tie are at the side of the project. Use your iron to press the tie into this position.
- 4). Slip the D-rings onto the narrow end of the tie. Adjust them so that they are approximately 1 inch or more up the narrow part of the tie.
- 5). Use a needle and thread to secure both D-rings to the end of the tie by stitching down the 1 inch of excess fabric.
