Uses for Q Crochet Hooks

    Afghans

    • Afghans and other blankets can be made using a Q-size crochet hook. Use a super-bulky yarn weight or hold two or more less bulky yarns together to create an optimal gauge and prevent excessive gaps in the blanket. Many different afghan patterns have been written for Q-size crochet hooks, so your project options are not limited to only one kind of blanket.

    Scarves

    • Scarves, shrugs, wraps and shawls can be made using Q-size crochet hooks. The enormity of Q hooks cause the projects made with them to have large spaces or holes. This gives an attractive lace-like quality to accessories such as scarves and wraps. Use multiple yarns together to create an interesting and varied texture. Use only one yarn for a more web-like effect.

    Felted Items

    • Felting is the act of using hot water and agitation to shrink a large hand-made item to a smaller size. Use a Q-size hook and wool yarn to create an oversize accessory or other article. Run the finished project through the washing machine on a small load and hot/cold settings. Include 2 tbsp. baking soda. Felting shrinks a project to 80 percent of the width and 95 percent of the length. Look for felted crochet patterns written for a Q-size hook.
