How to Cut the Drip Edge on a Hip Roof

    • 1). Measure the drip edge hanging off the rim off the roof using a measuring tape. Measure a 1/2 inch from the edge of the roof.

    • 2). Use a utility knife to score a line across the underside of the shingle a 1/2 inch from the edge of the roof.

    • 3). Cut the roof shingle with a circular saw with a carbide blade to make the 1/2-inch drip edge. A carbide blade contains two teeth for every inch on the blade. Slowly cut the shingle, where you scored it, with the utility knife to cut the shingle to size creating the drip edge 1/2 inch away from the edge of the roof.
