- 1). Check the envelope's box or package for measurements, which should be on the outside of the packaging.
- 2). Lay the envelope on a flat surface. Use a ruler to measure two sides of the envelope, the width and the height. Mark down the measurements.
- 3). Open Microsoft Word. Click the "Mailings" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Envelopes" button on the left side of the ribbon/toolbar below the tab. The "Envelopes and Labels" window opens with the "Envelopes" tab enabled.
- 4). Click the "Preview" image of the envelope in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Pull down the "Envelope size" menu and select an envelope that matches the measurements. A standard A10 envelope measured at 4 1/8 inches by 9.5 inches would be the "Size 10" option. If the envelope size is not in Word's default choices, click "Custom size" and set up the envelope's measurements.
- 5). Click the "Add to Document" button. An envelope layout is added to the blank Word document on the page.
