Is Facebook"s Like Button Replacing Actual Comments & Thoughts?
I think we have all realized that Facebook's Like button is quickly gaining popularity and becoming a huge viral trend.
However, lately I've noticed that it seems to be becoming the easy way out for a lot of Facebook users.
Liking someone's status, picture, video or fan page on Facebook takes a split second, turning actual comments into a thing of the past.
With the invention of the FB like button, users no longer have to think as much as they used to.
They can now just click the 'like' button for virtually everything and anything on the popular social networking site.
The disturbing part for me, however, is the fact that people seem a little too 'like-happy' lately and are going a bit overboard with it.
What happened to the days when people actually voiced their thoughts and opinions? Facebook users now seem to be choosing the easy way out and liking everything without expressing any actual feelings.
Even more troubling is the fact that people don't even seem to be paying attention to the things they are 'liking' anymore.
Just last week, one of my Facebook friends was hit by a vehicle while riding her bike.
She updated her Facebook page to say, "The pain of my battered body doesn't compare to the emotional anguish of not being able to hold or hug my babies.
:-( "; a status that people quickly began liking.
Seriously?! Think about it this way, if you were speaking to someone, either in person or on the phone, and they told you how much pain they were in but that they were even more tormented because they could not hug their children- would you tell them you liked that?! I sincerely hope not.
And if that's not proof enough for you- go to your own profile, click info and view all of your likes and interests.
I have no idea how but mine displays over 70 pages, that I don't even remember 'liking' and its the same when I go to any of my friends profile info; they all have a large number of random things that they 'like'.
Why do people 'like' so much on Facebook? I truly believe that the like button has become the easy way out for Facebook users since it requires no time, effort or thought- just a simple click of a button.
I would really love to know what your take on the 'like' button is.
