How to Remove a Photo From Glass

    • 1). Remove the photo from the frame and any backing, leaving just the glass and the photo.

    • 2). Scan a copy of the photo using a color scanner at a minimum 300 dpi setting and save the digital copy to a computer or external hard drive.

    • 3). Put about 1 inch of warm water in a basin with some chemical photo wetting solution added according to manufacturer's directions.

    • 4). Place the glass and photo under the warm water solution and leave the photo to soak for at least two hours. Check the photo to see if it floated off the glass. Test by carefully peeling the photo off the glass to see if it is releasing.

    • 5). Keep the photo underwater for as long as necessary until it releases from the glass surface, up to several days.

    • 6). Take the released photo and use a sponge to absorb any excess water. Clean the glass that was on the photo and dry well.

    • 7). Place the photo between two pieces of paper, then put the cleaned piece of glass over the top of the paper. Place a heavy book over the glass and leave the photo there for 15 minutes.

    • 8). Take the book off, remove the glass, change the paper, then replace the glass and book. Change the papers every 15 minutes until you see less moisture on the paper. Replace the paper again and leave the photo longer between changes.

    • 9). After the paper stays dry, remove the photo and allow it to air dry thoroughly. Place the dried photo in a new frame using a mat and clean glass to display.
