- 1). Measure in inches the length, width and depth of the lime being weighed.
- 2). Multiply the three dimensions together to find the cubic inches of the lime.
- 3). Divide the result by 1,728, as there are 1,728 cubic inches in a cubic foot; this will tell you how many cubic feet of lime are being used.
- 4). Assess the type of lime being used. Lime is available as lumps of quick lime, finely granulated quick lime and in lime stone form.
- 5). Multiply the cubic feet by the appropriate weight to match your style of lime. For quick lumps, multiply by 53 pounds per cubic foot; for granulated, multiply by 75 pounds per cubic foot; and for stone, multiply by 168 pounds per cubic foot.
- 6). Divide the result by 2,000, as there are 2,000 pounds in a ton, in order to determine how many tons of lime you have.
