How to Hook Up a New Car Stereo in a Mustang

    • 1). Lift the Mustang's hood by pulling the hood release under the dashboard, to the left of the steering wheel.

    • 2). Remove the cover from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the negative battery cable clamp with the wrench and remove the cable from the post. Lay the cable away from the battery until the new stereo is installed. Return to the cabin of the vehicle.

    • 3). Insert the Ford DIN removal keys into the holes on either side of the Mustang's radio face. Squeeze the prongs on the keys to align them with the holes. Slide the devices into the holes until they lock into place.

    • 4). Pull outward on the keys while pulling the Mustang's stereo from the dashboard. Pull the radio far enough to access the wiring connected to the rear panel outlets.

    • 5). Unplug the wiring from the radio. The stereo wiring for the Mustang is grouped together by white plastic connectors. Pull the connectors, not the wires themselves. Pull the black antenna cable from the back of the radio.

    • 6). Connect the speaker wires and power supply cables in the stereo mounting dock, to the wiring harness adapter.

    • 7). Insert the sleeve from the Ford installation kit into the empty stereo mounting dock. Fold the edges of the sleeve to secure it into the opening of the Mustang's stereo dock.

    • 8). Connect the stereo wiring (via the wiring harness adapter) to the corresponding outlets on the rear panel of the new stereo. Plug the black antenna able into the "ANT" outlet on the back of the radio.

    • 9). Slide the stereo into the sleeve inside the stereo mounting dock. Push the unit into the opening until it snaps into place. Return to the Mustang's battery.
