Dairy Free Vitamin C Protein Smoothie

Starting the New Year with healthier choices does not have to be difficult when you have the right recipes on hand. Making smarter choices to reduce your added sugar is a step in the right direction. Using fruits to sweeten recipes rather than white refined sugar is one of the best ways to learn how to change your taste buds and desire less and less sweeter recipes.

The New Year is also the prime season for colds and flu bugs that spread like wild fire through a household. Avoid the germs by making sure you are filling up on lots of Vitamin C. This smoothie is the perfect one to help keep your immune system strong to fight against germs.

Drinking one of these smoothies or my Green smoothie at least once a week is a quick and easy breakfast to make on the go. Just have your ingredients ready to go and blend in the morning. Breakfast couldn't be any quicker and much healthier than getting fast food through a drive through.

If orange isn't your favorite you could try grapefruit or even apple mixed with the carrot and is still a delicious choice. Other foods high in vitamin C are kiwis, berries, papayas, bell peppers, dark leafy greens, broccoli and tomatoes. The options are endless when you start with a great base. If you don't have protein powder on hand you could also add protein using pasteurized egg whites, about 1/2 cup would work here. It will provide a nice creamy texture to this smoothie and I promise it will not taste anything like eggs at all.

While this recipe is not sugar-free because it has natural sugars from the fruits and vegetable, it is a naturally sweetened smoothie without any added sugars. Finding ways to reduce your sugar intake is simple when you know what to look for and how to create tasty foods without sugar. Start with this recipe and others on my blog and you will be well on your way to a healthier you!
