Wash the scratched area thoroughly with a mixture of hot water and concentrated liquid laundry detergent. Use a ratio of 2 tsp. of detergent to 16 ounces of hot water. Use a 100 percent cotton rag to clean the scratched surface. The surface must be cleaned because loose dirt can further scratch the Lexan during the buffing step of this project. Allow the washed surface to completely dry.

    • 2). Apply 4 large drops of acrylic buffing compound onto a dry 100 percent cotton rag. Acrylic buffing compound comes in two strengths, one for light scratches and one for heavy scratches. Use the buffing compound designed for light scratches. This type of scratch remover is in a liquid form and contains a mild abrasive. Acrylic scratch removal techniques are used for Lexan as well.

    • 3). Rub the buffing compound in a circular motion, which prevents creating a noticeable depression on the plastic's surface. Add more buffing compound to the cotton rag as needed. Wipe down the surface of the Lexan and check to see if the scratches are gone. If the scratches have been buffed out, proceed to Step 4. If scratches remain, continue to buff them. Once the scratches are removed, wipe the surface down with a clean cotton rag.

Apply 1 tsp. of plastic polish (not buffing compound) to a clean, dry rag. If the plastic polish is in a spray bottle, lightly spray the previously buffed area. Using a clean dry cotton rag, rub the polish in, using a circular motion similar to that used in Step 3. Rub the polish into the Lexan until it blends in with the rest of the surface's finish.
