How to Make a Cardboard Village for Children

    • 1). Draw a few intersecting roads on your poster board with a black marker to lay out the design of your village.

    • 2). If you have not used green poster board, color in the grassy areas with your green marker. Draw flowers or bushes in the grassy areas as well.

    • 3). Draw a pond on the poster board with a blue marker Draw to add a swimming or fishing area for your villagers.

    • 4). Draw sidewalks on either side of each street so that your villagers have somewhere to walk.

    • 5). Cut your cardboard boxes to the sizes you want with a utility knife. Cut them to different sizes so that all of your buildings do not look exactly alike.

    • 6). Paint the boxes with different colors of craft paints to add the overall house color. Use other colors to paint windows and doors onto the houses.

    • 7). Apply hot glue to the bottom of each box and place them along your roads. Press firmly so the glue adheres well to the board.

    • 8). Apply hot glue to the bottoms of your miniature trees and place them in various places throughout your town. Place a few near the pond and a tree or two near each house.

    • 9). Apply some hot glue around your pond and place pebbles around it.

      Wait until the glue dries to allow chidren to play with the town. Do not glue the animals or people in place. Leave them loose so they can be moved about during play.
