What Is a Loud Thump in a Frigidaire Gallery Dryer?

    Heavy Load

    • A thumping sound inside the dryer is likely caused by a heavy load that has balled or twisted together inside the drum. This ball then creates a loud thump as it bounces around the drum as it spins. Open the dryer door, and wait for the drum to stop spinning; then loosen up the items inside the dryer. Remove some pieces if necessary, and close the door. You can push or select "Start" and hold it for two seconds to restart the dryer.

    Unbalanced Load

    • An unbalanced load may also be the reason for the thumping inside the dryer, which is typically caused by too many items of the same size drying together. Mix wash loads so that several pieces of varying sizes are included together, and try not to overload the dryer as this can exacerbate the problem.

    Foreign Objects

    • Check for items that may have fallen out of pockets while in the dryer that are spinning freely in the dryer and causing a thumping sound. Examples include wallets or cell phones or anything small but with some weight that makes a thud as it tumbles around in the dryer.

    Level Installation

    • If there are no foreign objects inside the dryer and the load is moderate and well balanced, check the installation of the Gallery washer and dryer system. Ensure it is placed on a sturdy floor that can hold the weight of the unit. If the unit can be rocked side to side or forward to back, adjust the legs on the unit so that all legs touch the floor firmly. Vibration during use due to unstable installation or feet can lead to a thumping sound during use.
