Mt. Everest

Himalayas (Sanskrit: hima alaya, meaning snow), is known for "Snow's hometown" in the Tibetan word. It is located in the south edge of edge of the Tibetan Plateau. It is the highest mountain range in the world, which has more than 110 mountain peaks up to 7,350 meters or more above sea level. It is not only a natural boundary mountain East Asia and the Indian subcontinent of Southern Asia, but also a natural borders between China and India, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan and other countries, west of Kashmir, Nanga Parbat (8125 m above sea level). It extends to Namcha Barwa (an altitude of 7782 m) at Tsangpo Great Bend in the east. And it has a total length of 2450km and a width of 200 ~ 350km.

The main peak of the mountain range is Mt. Everest (also known as Mount Everest, Tibetan name: Qomolangma). It is the highest mountain in the world. It means the third goddess in Tibetan language. It has a total height of up to 8844.43 meters above sea level. According to the latest measured data, it shows that Mount Everest increases the average height of 1 cm every year. Mount Everest is located on the border between China and Nepal. Its northern slope is of the territory in China's Tibet and the southern slope is in Nepal. Everest has the shape of a giant pyramid-shaped mountain. It points its magnificent head to the sky and it has extreme steep terrain. The environment is very complex. The line-height of snow is of 5800 ~ 6200 meters in the North Slope and of 5500 m~ 6100 m in the southern slope. There are three steep ridges among the northeastern ridge, southeastern ridge and Western ridge.

Everest-Himalayan region was originally an ocean in the ancient time. During the long geological ages, a lot of gravel and sand was eroded from the land to this area and deposited in the Himalayan region, thus the formation of more than 30,000 m thick marine sedimentary rocks layer was developed. And later, due to the strong orogeny, the Himalayan region was uplift by squeezing violence. According to estimates, it increased with an average of 20 to 30 meters every 10,000 years.
