How to Attach a Peg Board to a Hollow Core Door
- 1). Measure the door for the holes to hang the peg board. Using a measuring tape and a pencil, mark off where you will be drilling holes for the peg board. Make your measurements using the last hole at the top left and right of the peg board and the bottom left and right of the peg board for your screws.
- 2). Drill the holes. Use a drill bit that is appropriate for your hollow wall anchors or "molly bolts." They come in several different sizes and will indicate which size drill bit you will need to use.
- 3). Insert the wall anchor into each hole in the door. This will provide a strong and threaded surface for your screws. Keep in mind that a wall anchor can typically support up to 50 pounds of weight, depending on the size anchor that is used.
- 4). Attach the peg board to the door. Using a screwdriver, insert each screw into each corner of the peg board, screwing them into the wall anchor. Do not overtighten as this can cause stress on the door.
- 5). Use adhesive strips. Alternatively, instead of drilling holes into a hollow core door, you can use self adhesive strips. Place one on each corner of the door and firmly press the peg board into the strips. Keep in mind that these strips will greatly reduce the amount of weight that the peg board can hold.
