How to Replace a 3-Prong Frigidaire Dryer With a 4-Prong

    • 1). Remove the screws holding the power harness panel onto the back of the dryer. This harness panel can be in different locations on different models -- you can tell where it is because the power cord enters through a cutout on the bottom edge.

    • 2). Loosen the three screws located in a row on the terminal buss bar inside the dryer. Each screw will be holding the bare end of a wire that's part of the existing three-prong plug power cord. Pull the wires out from under the screws.

    • 3). Loosen the screw on the clamp holding the power cord. Pull the old cord out.

    • 4). Slide the end of the new four-prong plug power cord through the clamp. Slide the bare end of the red wire under the right screw and tighten; slide the white wire under the center screw and tighten. Then tighten the black wire under the left screw and tighten. Attach the bare end of the green wire to the single screw located below the terminal buss bar.

    • 5). Tighten the clamp holding the power cord. Replace the panel and secure it with the screws. Plug the dryer in.
