- 1). Hold the screwdriver in one hand. Stand in front of the grinder, and turn it on.
- 2). Grip the screwdriver by the handle, and point the tip up at a 30 degree angle. Place the tip of the screwdriver against the grinding wheel. You should see orange sparks shooting straight down.
- 3). Move the tip of the screwdriver from right to left across the front of the spinning wheel, taking care to maintain the 30 degree angle. Watch the point where the tip of the screwdriver contacts the wheel. As the tip begins to sharpen, ease up.
- 4). Stick the end of the screwdriver into a small cup of water until it cools. Examine the tip, clean off any residual steel burrs and examine the edge.
- 5). Grip the screwdriver and hold it against the wheel, maintaining the angle. Gently sweep it back and forth across the wheel as it gets sharper. Check the edge visually by holding it up. Once it's sharp, you're finished.
