How to Compost Dryer Lint

    • 1). Gather the dryer lint in a small bag or container for one or two weeks until you have enough that will fit in both outstretched hands. Combine the dryer lint with other carbon materials, if you desire.

    • 2). Add the dryer lint along with any other carbon materials to create a 1-inch layer on the top of the compost.

    • 3). Place a layer of nitrogen onto the compost pile next if you have grass clippings or vegetable and fruit garbage to discard. Add the nitrogen in a 1-inch layer also.

    • 4). Add another carbon layer over the nitrogen layer. Always add the layers in 1-inch increments. Leave the compost bin with a layer of carbon as the top layer. This will help decrease the number of insects and pests your compost bin attracts.

    • 5). Continue adding nitrogen and carbon in alternating layers, always covering the bin after you add materials. When the compost in your bin reaches your desired height (several feet), stop adding new ingredients and allow the materials to decompose. When materials decompose into a dark and rich compost, apply the compost to your growing areas to enrich the soil.
