How to Clean Manual Pool Covers
- 1). Remove as much of the loose debris as possible from the pool cover by lifting it out with a water-skimmer net. This debris is usually a collection of old leaves from nearby trees. They mix with the water that condensates on the pool cover and make a mess.
- 2). Place the siphon hose in the middle of the pooled water on the cover. If the siphon is a manual pump, squeeze the siphon ball with your hand to siphon the water. If the pump is electric, plug it in and turn it on to pump the water off the pool cover. Move the siphon hose around like a vacuum cleaner to remove as much water as possible.
If you do not have a siphon, you can substitute with a wet/dry vacuum. You will need a longer hose that you can purchase from a home-improvement retailer. Connect the hose to the wet/dry vacuum and vacuum the water off the cover. - 3). Place a person at each end of the pool, lift the cover and carry it away from the pool. Hold the cover flat to prevent getting any debris or water left on the cover into the pool. Place the cover flat on the ground or lean it up against a building.
- 4). Wet the surface of the cover with hose water. Add five or six drops of car-wash soap to a bucket and fill the bucket with water. Scrub the surface clean with a nylon-bristle brush. Flush the surface of the cover clean with hose water.
- 5). Flip the cover over and repeat step four on the underside of the pool cover.
- 6). Allow the pool cover to dry in the sun.
