Despite a city-wide ban on smoking in many public places, including hotels, Paris continues to be a smoker-friendly city. The French love of "le tabac" has resulted in many businesses creating designated smoking areas that comply with ventilation standards. In hotels, this means that you may not be able to smoke in the lobby, but you will be able to smoke in the privacy of your room if you specifically request a smoking room when making the reservation. - A highly rated hotel near the right bank of the Seine, the NewHotel Candide offers well-designed smoking rooms with modern European styling at a moderate price point. Notre Dame, Sainte-Chapelle and Place de la Bastille are all within easy walking distance from the hotel's door. Just steps from the Voltaire Metro stop, NewHotel Paris is a short train ride from most of the top Paris attractions. With room styles that can accommodate up to three people, the hotel is near a number of smoker-friendly restaurants in the area, such as La Lanterne, Chez Lili et Marcel and Kong.
- Located in the trendy Marais Quarter, the four-star Hotel Les Jardins du Marais' Art Deco structure surrounds a lush courtyard nearly 1/2 acre in area. The hotel's styling continues into its guest rooms, where modern appointments mingle with Art Deco design. Many rooms have small balconies, and most have a view of either the hotel's green spaces or vibrant Paris side streets. The hotel restaurant offers terrace seating in the courtyard, which means you can enjoy a cigarette after your meal of locally raised chateaubriand or steak tartare. The hotel is in walking distance from the Picasso Museum and the Victor Hugo House or a short Metro trip to the Louvre or Champs Elysees from the nearby Saint Sebastien-Froissart station.
- Located in the historic Montparnasse district, the boutique Hotel Villa du Maine is an affordable surprise in central Paris. The bright rooms offer high ceilings and near floor-to-ceiling windows that swing open to reveal quaint Paris side streets. The Montparnasse Tower and the Montparnasse Cemetery, where the likes of Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Samuel Beckett are buried, are within easy reach on foot. The Luxembourg Gardens are just a few minutes farther away. Catch the Metro at the nearby Alesia or Plaisance (about equidistant from the hotel) stations for a quick ride to the Musee d'Orsay, Eiffel Tower or Ile Saint-Louis. Chez Francoise, Cubana Cafe and L'Atelier Berger are nearby restaurants that will welcome your business and let you enjoy an after-dinner smoke.
