Tips on How to Design Edible Cake Flowers

One intricate and elaborate way of decorating cakes is to garnish them using cake flowers.
These flowers don't only look good but they can also have a pleasant taste too.
It takes a fair amount of skill to know how to design edible cake flowers but even novices can create simple flowers for cake toppings.
In order to make the flowers edible you will need to use an icing that is firm enough to be rolled out and shaped into any design.
Most bakery stores offer commercially prepared icing that is easy to store and shape.
You can also make your own icing, but you will need to be sure that it has the right consistency.
Every different type of flower will require a different method to create it.
Some flowers are relatively simple to make while others can only be created by a professional.
Roses are especially difficult due to their complex design and multiple layers.
You can also choose the color for your flowers as well, some icing may already come with colors, but you can also add your own colors as well.
By using food coloring you can color the icing to whatever you want it to be.
One simple flower to make is a daisy.
First you should have icing prepared that is the proper consistency and ready to be shaped.
Roll the icing out until it is about a centimeter thick, but don't use too much icing unless you are planning to create a lot of daisies.
Take a circle cookie cutter and cut out as many circles as you want.
This kind of flower requires a large amount of petals so create lines around each circle and space them similarly to a clock's layout.
Put the lines where the numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10, 11 would go on a clock, this will give the flower eight petals.
When pressing slightly in the center of the circle the icing shape should resemble a daisy.
You should probably have a centerpiece in the middle so try adding a piece of candy or chocolate circle into the daisy's center.
Continue this process until you have as many flowers as you want.
The icing will still be quite soft so lay them on wax paper and place it in a cool and dry place overnight so it can stiffen.
After, peel the paper off and transfer them to the cake.
