Rustic Lodge Furniture Ideas

    Knotty Wood

    • Create the rough, slightly unfinished feeling of handmade lodge furniture with pieces that have a knotty wood finish. For a subtle look, mix in a single chair or table made out of knotty pine; look for models that have a simple, rustic construction. If you want a more dramatic impact for larger spaces, choose furniture that has a knotty wooden base and standard cushions. Rough, knotty wooden furniture tends to be large and heavy and works particularly well in a room with vaulted ceilings.

    Leather Upholstery

    • If you are looking to create a lodge design that is more upscale-rustic, look for furniture with leather upholstery. Leather furniture tends to be expensive, so, depending on your budget, you might choose a full suite or a single piece. Choose furniture that is well-constructed; if you want a lived-in look, buy used furniture and replace the chair hardware for a vintage feeling. A single quality piece of leather-upholstered furniture can be used for a reading nook or a lodge library for a rich feeling.

    Rich Colors

    • Rustic lodges are rarely decorated in pale shades or flowery patterns. When you are looking for furniture, choose rich, deep colors like maroon, forest green and brown to mimic the shades of the forest. If you prefer a lighter palette, look for shades of brown from camel and sand to chocolate brown. Choose sturdy fabrics that look like they will stand up to traffic from hunters for an authentic feeling.

    Texture

    • Elements of rustic lodges often use texture in their design and decor: wooden construction or stone fireplaces, for example. When choosing furniture, look for upholstery that has texture; fabrics that are too smooth may look out of place in a rustic atmosphere. Select fabrics like burlap linen, corduroy or even suede for a more upscale look.
