How to Prevent Facial Blushing - Is Surgery an Option?

Facial flushing can come on instantaneously and seems to take forever to go away. This condition can traumatize people to the breaking point, where surgery seems like a worthwhile option. I understand because I contemplated surgery for my facial flushing numerous times. The more I read, the more appalled I was at the potential side-effects. It put my situation in perspective though and I realized I needed to look towards a more holistic options, although in my mind, none of them seemed powerful enough. My situation was pretty bad. In fact, I would flush if someone teased me over the phone!

First of all, the surgery some blushers consider is called an Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy. Under complete anesthesia, surgeons cut connections in your sympathetic nerve trunk. Information can no longer travel through your nerves to certain organs and back to your brain. This surgery is irreversible and includes disabling side-effects such as Horner's syndrome (face disfigurement), excessive sweating in the hands and groin, decreased lung capacity, and an abnormal heart rate.

Also, not long ago, post-surgery Swedish patients actually created a group called the FFSO (patients disabled from a Sympathectomy) which in turn caused Sweden to ban this surgery. This is ironic considering it was here that the non-invasive ETS technique was perfected.

Furthermore, facial flushing or blushing is NOT something so life-threatening that cutting nerves is necessary. There are successful cases of people who cured themselves of blushing by changing their diet and undergoing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and/or Hypnosis. I personally did both. I was intent on being healthy again so I stopped drinking alcohol and cut gluten, processed sugar and dairy out of my diet. I then found a brilliant hypnosis audio that I used every day. I believe that it took a combination of the two and a deep desire to be happy again, to cure my facial flushing disorder. Know you're not alone in this and take it one step at a time! Pretty soon you'll be blush-free and living life!
