How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks With Things Around the House
- 1). Apply wheat germ oil to the stretch marks. According to a 2007 study performed by Demet Çiçek, et. al., at Firat University in Elazığ, Turkey, 45 percent of patients who applied Triticum Vulgare (wheat germ oil) early on in the development of their stretch marks had complete improvement, whereas 36% had significant improvement.
- 2). Rub foods containing alpha hydroxy acids on the stretch marks twice a day. Alpha hydroxy acids are natural chemicals found in food that promote the health of your skin by exfoliating and removing dead skin cells, bringing new skin to the surface. Examples of foods containing alpha hydroxy acids include oranges, lemons, sour milk products (like yogurt) and grapes. According to Eric F. Bernstein, M.D., Clinical Associate Professor of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, alpha hydroxy acids are effective in improving skin's appearance by remodeling collagen and elastin. Weak collagen can contribute to the deepening in the appearance of stretch marks.
- 3). Massage the affected areas. Based on a study published in a 1996 issue of Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, women who massaged their stretch marks with Verum ointment had less of an incident of stretch marks. Because their was no placebo group to compare the results to, it's possible that the reduction in the prevalence of stretch marks was the result of massage alone.
