How to Remove Residual Config From Ubuntu

    • 1). Open Synaptic by clicking the “Ubuntu” menu icon at the upper left corner of the screen, typing “Synaptic” and pressing “Enter.”

    • 2). Type your password into the password prompt window that appears and press “Enter.”

    • 3). Click the “Status” button at the bottom left corner of the Synaptic window.

    • 4). Select the “Residual Config” status in the list in the left pane. You don’t have any residual config files if you don’t see the “Residual Config” status in the list.

    • 5). Click in the right pane, then press the “Ctrl” and “A” keys on your keyboard at the same time to select all packages with residual config files.

    • 6). Right-click the selected packages and select “Mark for Complete Removal.”

    • 7). Click the “Apply” button on the Synaptic window’s toolbar to apply your changes and click “Apply” again to confirm.
