UK Holiday Trends in 2010

With the strength of the pound against the euro and dollar meaning that it is cheaper to holiday in the UK in 2010 for both holidaymakers to and in the UK looks like it will be another good year for the UK travel industry.

This good news for self-catering accommodation owners it is not so good news for customers. Although the owners will not be increasing their prices and the big letting agencies will be running plenty of special offers especially for early bookings it will mean that the choice of accommodation to stay at during peak weeks will be limited.

The team at UKHolidayPlaces.co.uk have been looking at the data from the 2009 booking trends and have been trying to predict the year ahead and it certainly looks like once again self-catering accommodation is going to be very popular like holiday cottages, holiday parks, caravan and camping sites and holiday apartments. Hotels and B&B's are likely to be in for another hard year especially in the cities as there will be less people taking city breaks for weekends, which have grown in popularity over the last ten years with young couples until the recession hit home. B&Bs in rural locations seem to have done ok in 2009 and look likely to do ok next year as they generally attract an older crowd who have been less affected by the economic down turn.

From the data captured advanced bookings of self-catering accommodation for 2010 look strong and we are predicting a surge of bookings in the first three months of the year ahead. What this means for customers is that it is worth looking soon after the festive break for cottages, holiday apartments, caravans and lodges and getting your booking in early, try looking out for low deposit promotions and staged payments as these can help out making the payment as it is always harder to find a lump sum of money in one go.

The usually busy resort areas like Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Cotswolds, Lake District, Peak District National Park and Yorkshire will be as busy or busier than normal and although they have a large number of self-catering accommodation they are already showing signs of large numbers of bookings during the Easter, half term and Summer Holiday weeks.
