How to Remove Rust Stains from Terra-Cotta Tile

    • 1). Clean the terra-cotta well with a neutral cleanser. Many neutral tile cleansers are available in a spray bottle. Spray the cleanser directly onto the tile. Use a scrub brush to work the cleanser into the tile's surface.

    • 2). Rinse the tiles by pouring warm water over them. Wipe up the water and cleanser with a lint-free cloth and allow the tiles to dry completely.

    • 3). Spread a poultice over the stain. Poultices are available in powder and liquid form; follow the manufacturer's specifications on mixing to the correct consistency. Cover the poultice with plastic wrap or plastic sheeting, and allow it to penetrate the tile in order to lift the stain to the surface for one hour.

    • 4). Rinse the poultice off the tiles with warm water, using a scrub brush to bring up the poultice and the stain from the surface. Wipe the tiles clean with a lint-free cloth and allow them to dry naturally.
