Honestly, when I first saw Sugar Free Coffee Nips in the store, I completely mistook them for a coffee flavored version of Twizzlers Nibs. I am glad I was wrong as I do not think coffee flavored Twizzlers would be very good. Regardless, if not for my ignorance, I probably would not have taken the time to pick up the Sugar Free Coffee Nips and learn more about how solid the product is.
After taking off the cellophane wrapper, the Nip a revealed a light coffee colored candy about the size of an after-dinner mint. It has a smooth exterior and looks like it might be a chewy candy, but it is actually a very dense yet slightly malleable candy. The candy also has a very faint coffee smell as you put the candy to your nose. Once you put the Sugar Free Nip in your mouth, the smooth candy gives off a solid coffee flavor with hints of sweet toffee or caramel with no artificial aftertaste. The flavors are not overpowering but they are definitely present. In fact, the candy and its delightful flavors stay present for a long time - for me, it was about 10 minutes from the time I started sucking.
From the time I put the candy in my mouth, the dense candy gradually gave away some of its density, but it remained a hard candy similar to a Werther's Original Caramel. If one did try to chew the candy, it would likely be so sticky that one's fillings would likely come out.
Comparing the Sugar Free Nips to a recently reviewed and possibly cross-shopped product, the GoLightly Sugar Free Vanilla Caramel Chews, the Nips have a much better consistency and texture. In addition, the Nips last much longer and taste much better.
Overall, the Sugar Free Coffee Nips are a solid, simple product. They are good for coffee or toffee lovers and do not leave much to be desired. They do not have anything offensive such as a nasty aftertaste, but if you are looking for a somewhat chewy sweet candy look elsewhere.
