How to Check the Status of a Mechanics Lien

    • 1). Travel to your county's Recorder's Office. The office is sometimes referred to as the Registrar-Recorder or Clerk-Recorder, depending on the county.

    • 2). Request all documents that were recorded against your property. When asking for the documents, give the Recorder's Office the relevant time period in which the mechanic's lien would have been filed.

    • 3). Review any documents that the Recorder's Office gives to you. If there is a "Notice of Mechanic's Lien" or similar document, you will know that a mechanic's lien has been recorded against your property.

    • 4). Travel to the local Superior or Circuit Courthouse for your county. Request all documents that name you as a defendant. If you are given any documents entitled "Mechanic's Lien Foreclosure," you will know that a lawsuit has been filed against you to foreclose on the mechanic's lien. See an attorney immediately.
