Ab Workouts - Common Myths And Misconceptions Revealed

If you want to learn the truth about ab workouts and what you can expect from your abs exercises you will want to read this article. Specifically we will discuss what is true and what is not when it comes to getting those rock hard six-pack abs.

1. Endless muscle isolation exercises do not work. Continuous crunches will not burn away body fat from your middle section. It is certainly a part of the process but there is more to it. You must incorporate an effective cardio program along with the abs workout in order to effectively burn the desired fat.

2. The abdominals are muscles that need be trained that way. It's not necessary to perform high repetitions and a lot of sets to work your abs. You don't need to do hundreds or thousands of reps to get great looking abs. This just results in over exercising.

Ab muscles really are more of a stamina oriented muscle mass so performing somewhat higher repetitions might be more efficient. Nevertheless, it is best to keep reps at 20 or less and concentrate on increasing the level of resistance and variety in your training.

As with any other exercises you should be increasing the weight load on ab workouts. This could include using actual weights or increasing the resistance on your ab machines. You see, the stronger you make your abs, the more toned they will look when all the fat is removed.

3. Skip a day in between your abdominal workouts. Yes, it is okay! You don't train your other muscles every day, right? Your abdominals are a muscle just like your biceps, chest and leg muscles. You must exercise your abs just like these other muscles, with increasing resistance and high intensity training.  This also includes a rest and recovery period. It is not necessary or productive to train your abs more than 3 times a week.

If your goal is a flat stomach with rock hard visible abs, you must treat the abdominals just like any other muscles. If the ab muscles aren't developed, you may just have the flat stomach but no six-pack abs. You need to burn away the fat with proper exercise which includes cardiovascular exercise, light weight or resistance training, and an effective nutrition program. Remember, doing thousands of crunches a day or spending hours on your ab machines while ignoring the rest of the formula will not bring you the desired results. Hopefully, this article has exposed some of the common myths about ab workouts and will help you to achieve the body you have always  dreamed of.
