How to Make Your Own Minnow Traps

    • 1). Cut the top from one 2 liter bottle 3 inches down from the cap with a knife. Cut the bottom off of a second bottle 2 inches from the bottom.

    • 2). Remove the cap from the top section of the first bottle and insert it into the cut off bottom of the second bottle. The bottle opening needs to be pointing in when it is inserted.

    • 3). Poke holes 1 inch apart all the way around both bottles at the top where they join together with the point of a knife.

    • 4). Thread a shoestring or other sturdy string through the holes in the two bottles to hold them together. Tie two ends of string to each side of the bottles to give you a way to anchor it.

    • 5). Push cracker or bread crumbs through the hole in the bottle so that they settle in the open area below. Fish will swim through the bottle opening to reach the bait but will not be able to swim back out.

    • 6). Place the trap in shallow water where minnows are seen. Push it down into the water until it fills with water and will stay down by itself. Tie to a nearby tree or log and check later for fish. Open the cap at the end of the trap to remove the minnows.
