How to Dispose of Birth Control Pills

- 1). Put your expired or unused birth control pills into a sealable bag, then gently crush them. Do not flush your pills in the toilet or put them down the drain because they could make their way into the water supply.
- 2). Add water to the bag help dissolve the medication.
- 3). Add coffee grounds or kitty litter to the bag as a deterrent. This is mostly a precautionary measure to protect young children or animals in the unlikely, but possible, event that they go through the trash.
- 4). Seal the bag and gently mix the contents, then place it in the trash. Toss and/or recycle the pill container after removing and destroying all personal information.
