Decorating Tips for a Fairy-Themed Quinceanera
- Fairies are airborne, and surrounding your guests with fairy decor makes for special memories and neat pictures. Hang butterflies, tiny white party lights, Spanish moss, old-fashioned lanterns and miniature fairy cutouts until the whole ceiling is a magical work of art. Try covering the ceiling with black butcher paper so the decor stands out. If you're in a room with low overhead clearance, just stick these items to the butcher paper. Keep in mind though that when they're hanging, they can appear to "float" at different heights.
- Build fairy houses with bark, moss, pine cones, stones and other natural elements, so that each table has its own miniature fairy villa. Build the houses on a circular piece of plywood; then cover the plywood with a natural ground cover, like glued sand with perhaps a little garden. Surround them with a ring of white pebbles or mini toadstools. After the party, allow your helpers to take the centerpieces home for garden art.
- String together fake flowers to create a fairy garland. Use it like you would streamers, over the dance floor, or to separate the buffet line. To save money on flowers, alternate or replace the silk flowers with tissue paper flowers.
- Just before the party, sprinkle each surface with the teeniest bit of fairy dust. Make sure that your location allows glitter; some rental halls and banquet rooms don't, since it's difficult to clean up. Choose silver, gold or iridescent glitter to match your theme. Be careful--a little goes a long way. Months from now, you may still be finding glitter.
- Use cardboard to cut out giant mushroom shapes and then spray paint them. Depending on your party colors, you might want to use red-capped mushrooms with white spots, or a soft, buttery ivory mushroom. If you circle the room with them, you'll be partying in a fairy ring. If you just make a few, you can use them to cover beams, speakers or other non-fairy-looking necessities.
