Not Wealthy? You can still eat healthy!

A great misconception that many people have today is that eating healthy has to be extremely expensive. While it is certainly not as cheap as buying $1 frozen dinners (or as I like to call them, chemical sludge) for every meal, it is much more beneficial in the long run. I mean, who needs money if you don't have health?

Many of the people I've conversed with are locked in what I call the "swinging door diet", in which it only takes two swinging doors to prepare a meal, the refrigerator and the microwave. Some of the meals that are sold in boxes in frozen aisles of stores are of such poor quality that it would be cruel to feed it to animals. Looking at the label of any of these meals, you can discover all of the ingredients that you have never heard of and can't explain. If that doesn't put you off, divert your eyes to the amount of sodium, likely at least 5 times the daily value if not more. Eating these foods on a regular basis will not end well.

There are many healthy options out there that don't cost a fortune. For example, a large bag of brown rice can be had fairly cheaply for the number of meals it creates. Brown rice must be chosen over white rice because it is unbleached and retains its nutrients. Most white rice (some long-grains being the exception) is just empty calories. Furthermore, vegetables are always fairly cheap and can be prepared in a variety of different ways. This is especially convenient if you are located next to a farm where you can get lots of local veggies for very low prices.

There are however some people who still refuse to prepare food or use lack of time as an excuse. These people, if they're going to eat frozen food, are better off eating the products that are natural or organic. Always check the back of the box for chemicals. Although freezing definitely depletes food of some nutrients, frozen organic foods are a much healthier option than non-organic, though most do come at a higher price.

All in all, a person should have a balanced diet that includes a variety of different, healthy foods with heaps of vegetables on the side. You won't regret it later.
