Reality is Quite Down to Earth - And the Most Obvious Path
At the very base of creating a website is the most fundamental part of all...
the content.
Is it any wonder that a site with great content will by far outweigh a site that is created haphazardly or without any real concern for content, content without direction or content that does not serve a real purpose? No, it isn't and this very basic ideal of any literary work does not seem to be widely understood in the online web world.
Literary work? Did I say that? Yes, I did.
It is becoming more and more apparent to me that content written for websites exists as descriptions or describing phrases, more than it is meant to meet the needs and curiosities of the users who arrive at the site.
As any author will tell you, the good books will sell, and the poor ones won't.
This isn't rocket science, this is reality.
If a book is a good read people will tell others about it, it will hit the book reviews, it will be a success.
If it isn't...
it will get bad or poor reviews, people won't be reading it, it won't get talked about and it won't be selling many copies.
Why? What we are talking about is a book that is not informative, not written well, not delivering something of value to the world at large, albeit, the public.
So, how do you expect a website to get a lot of visitors if it is not written well and delivering information that is valuable.
Do you think just because you built the site they will come? LOL! I can't tell you how many sites I have visited and just not found what I'm looking for.
There are a lot of people out there looking for a product or service, but they want to be sold on it, or at least educated on it, in order to make a decision whether to purchase it or not.
People are looking for information.
I'm sure you have heard about the internet being a fountain of information.
Search engines know what people want, and they also understand that a site that is informative, well written, answers questions and serves a purpose is a valuable site.
These are the sites they want to list as #1 for any given search.
These are the sites that will always attain the #1 position.
So what am I getting at? I'm getting at your site and how it fails this test! Well, OK, I probably haven't visited your site, so I can't really say that...
for sure...
about your site, but...
hey, am I right? So many sites are thrown together with descriptions of services, or products, but nothing beyond that.
No real content.
No novel.
No documentary.
No short story.
Why? I believe it is because site owners are missing the most important point of all when it comes to websites...
the content needs to be a literary work to achieve the end result of being valuable, answering questions, and providing information.
There is a lot that can be talked about inside of this subject.
I know that I am, in essence, just beginning to realize this myself.
I want to go back and rewrite my own websites to further make them bodies of work, rather than a sales letter, of something.
I know this is what I need to do because I see sites ahead of me who seem to already know this...
or just got lucky.
I believe online content needs to settle somewhere between being a sales letter and a literary work, somewhere that it answers questions, offers solutions, looks at situations, offers ideas and probably most of all...
is informative.
