What Is a Feather Bob Wrap?
- A feather wrap bob is a specific hairstyle that is typically used with African-American hair. The hair is straightened, cut along the shoulders or even shorter and cut with layers to achieve a feathered appearance. The hairstylist then wraps the hair around the head to create a stiff bob style that is easy to maintain and keep nice-looking for several days before the style has to be redone.
- A hairstylist will cut the hair either straight across the bottom near the jawline or cut it longer in the front or back for an asymmetrical look. The hair is then pulled straight back from the head and cut at an angle to create layers in the hair. The layers are what create the feathered look. The stylist will oil and curl the hair under with a flat iron; she'll use a comb to separate the individual curls to create a layered, feathered wrap bob over the head.
- Caring for the hair is not difficult. Condition the hair initially when you first get the style done to hold the hair together to prevent frizzing. When sleeping, wrap the hair in a satin cloth wrap to maintain the style. Spray the hair every morning with a conditioning spray and use a comb to smooth down any flyaways that appear. This hairstyle can last for up to a week or more, depending on the activities that you engage in.
- A feathered bob wrap style can also be used on less curly hair as well. The cut is made using the same techniques; however, the styling is slightly different. For straighter hair, the hair is placed into large fabric fastener rollers to give it lift. After releasing the hair from the rollers, hairspray, use hairspray to hold the curls in place. Loosen the curls and feather the hair using a comb.
