Holiday Maternity Style Do"s and Don"ts
With the holidays in full gear, moms and moms to be are running around dealing with the shopping, the wrapping and all the planning without a moment to stop and think about what they will be wearing during the holidays. So to ease the mind of those looking for ideas on how to style the bump this season, About Maternity has gathered a few tips from the maternity industry on how to dress this holiday season.
Kate Middleton was spotted twice wearing Seraphine Maternity during her NYC trip so we ask Seraphine's Cecile Reinaud about dressing the bump this holiday season so that expectant moms can also feel like royalty.
Cecile says...
"Don't sacrifice your style for comfort, DO Silk Pants! Try an ultra glamorous silk crepe-de-chine pant that will have you looking amazing and feeling fantastic. "
"DO Black and Gold -- it's a glamorous combination. A party dress in black and gold makes the perfect seasonal statement."
"A pair of perfectly fitted black maternity pants is a must have for your holiday closet. Team them with a glamorous red blouse and a touch of sparkle for a festive party outfit."
"Don’t be a wall flower this season; a statement printed dress will flatter your figure, taking you from day to evening in style."
The wonderful people at BabyBump App reached out to the members of the app's built-in pregnancy community and came up with the following real world tips.
The members say...
"You may not reuse those black maternity pants next year, but killer bangles or stylish shoulder-dusting earrings can stick around and help you out with your post-pregnancy party outfits no matter what's going on with your belly. Putting your dollars into accessories can help you glow with extra sparkle this holiday season and stock your closet for life after pregnancy."
"If you're not wild about what's happening in your midsection, downplay it by showing off those shapely legs. Choose a solid color, comfortable dress and keep hemline as short as you dare. Cap off this winning look with some sparkly shoes and patterned tights. Flats are on-trend this year, so don't worry about wobbling in sky-high heels if you think your balance might be a little off-kilter."
"While no one is asking you to sacrifice style, there's no sweeter excuse to relax than a growing baby bump. Have you ever wished you could ditch the tight dress and just wear stretchy pants and a roomy top while making the rounds at holiday parties? Now's your chance! Dressing for comfort will keep a smile on your face, and that is the best accessory of all."
Carrie Peery, a mom of two with number three on the way, is the President and CEO of SweetP3, whose flagship maternity product, bumpbows, just hit the market. An expert not just through experiences, maternity style and pregnancy is her business.
Carrie says...
"DO make sure you feel 100% confident in the outfit you choose - you'll want to be sure your clothing fits properly and covers adequately - if you choose to wear a 'pre-pregnancy' outfit, make sure you've tried it on and added appropriate maternity accessories (such as bumpbows!) to be sure it fits in a manner you are comfortable with."
"DO dress for comfort - there are so many options in terms of maternity clothing these days - whether you prefer tight fitting or loose styles, make sure it's something you'll be able to tolerate for the duration of the event."
"DON'T be shy - 'tis the season to sparkle! If you find special occasion maternity-wear boring (another black wrap dress?) remember that adding a statement necklace, sparkly flats, or a great pair of earrings can completely change your look and make you party-ready in a matter of minutes!"
