Don"t Stress - Just Write It

Don't stress - just write it.
You don't have to be a superb wordsmith to communicate what you want to say.
Simply say it simply - the simpler the better.
If nothing else, be simple and clear.
Clarity is next to godliness.
It is no use using smart words if no one understands what you are trying to say.
Utilise means use - so say use! Mark Twain said he got the same money for writing jail as for prison, so he uses jail.
Impecunious means broke, but broke needs no explanation.
Frequently magazine editors are not great writers - for that we have copy editors, sub editors, rewriters.
Many of these word-crafters cannot handle what the editor has to put up with - the meetings, the public and the functions.
The editor should be a leader, a concept person, a planner - not necessarily the best writer.
Leave the great writing to those whose talent it is.
News reporters report the news: Who, What, Where, How and Why.
Their job is to get the facts down accurately - to check names, dates and spelling.
Tell the story so that it is clear.
As you grow in experience, so you will begin to polish as you write.
Never try to cover vagueness with obfuscation, pomposity or misleading blurb.
If in doubt, leave it out! You will find it easier to edit as you grow in stature and experience, until then leave it to those who love to fix mistakes.
The golden rule is this: Read carefully what the copy editors have done with your work.
And learn from that!
