How to Make a Round Head Rag Doll
- 1). Draw the pattern in the shape that you want the doll on a piece of paper. Basically create a paper doll shape with a circle for a head. Make sure the arms and legs are at least 2 inches thick. After drawing the outline, add an additional outline ½ of an inch outside of the original drawing. This will be the seam allowance. Cut the paper doll out.
- 2). Place two pieces of fabric with the right sides facing each other. Pin the doll pattern over two pieces of fabric. Use the scissors to cut out the doll shape from the fabric. Cut as evenly as possible. Remove the pins and the pattern from the fabric. Re-pin the two pieces of the doll pattern together. Mark with a pencil ½ of an inch inside the fabric to mark where to sew the pieces together.
- 3). Load the sewing machine with the thread. Place the doll onto the sewing machine and sew around the seam line that you marked on the fabric. If desired, you can sew two rows of stitching for additional strength between the layers. Leave a 2-inch hole along one side of the doll for stuffing.
- 4). Remove the pins from the doll. Turn the fabric right side out. Stuff the doll with stuffing, starting with the legs and arms. Stuff the head next, then finally the body. Stuff the body with as much stuffing as it will hold. Sew the opening closed by hand using an overhand stitch.
- 5). Draw or paint a face on the doll using paint or a permanent marker. You can sew on buttons for eyes if desired. You can also leave the face blank. Cut some yarn and glue it to the doll's head for hair, or use a doll wig purchased from a craft store. Dress the doll however you like.
