How to Cite a Publication on a Résumé
- 1). Choose a format for your résumé. The same format should be used for all referenced material in your résumé. There are several standard formats. APA (American Psychology Association) is used to cite most social science works. MLA (Modern Language Association) is used to cite liberal arts and humanities work. CMS (Chicago Manual of Style) is mainly used by editors.
- 2). Create a category and leave space on your résumé for your publications. Make sure the section is clearly delineated from other sections, and consistent with others as far as font, type size and style. In bold, create the heading of "Publications." Allow at least two spaces between this heading and your first entry. Indent at least six spaces and begin your citation under the "Publications" heading.
- 3). If you've written a book, use this style for MLA formatting: Lastname, Firstname. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication. Medium of Publication.
Use this style for citing your book in APA: Author, A. A. (Year of publication). Title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle. Location: Publisher. - 4). Cite your journal or magazine publication this way if you're using MLA formatting: Author(s). "Title of Article." Title of Periodical Day Month Year: pages. Medium of publication.
If you're using APA for your publication, this is the correct style: Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (Year). Title of article. Title of Periodical, volume number(issue number), pages.
