How to Replace an Image's Background in GIMP
- 1). Load your image into GIMP by dropping down the "File" menu, selecting "Open," and then double-clicking on the name of the file you want to load.
- 2). Click on the Scissors Select tool, which is the scissors icon in the Toolbox.
- 3). Click the cursor on the edge of the foreground image you want to isolate. A small gray point appears. Click again on the edge of the image, a short distance away. Another point appears, and the two are connected by a line that follows the contour of the foreground image.
- 4). Place more points on the edge of the foreground image, always working in the same direction. When you have completely surrounded the image, click on the first point you placed. Then click in the middle of the foreground image to convert the points to a selection.
- 5). Drop down the "Edit" menu and select "Copy Visible."
- 6). Load a new background image into GIMP. Drop down the "Edit" menu in the window of the new background image and click "Paste Into." Your foreground image appears in the new background. Drag the foreground to the location you want it and click outside of it to anchor it against the new background.
