What Is a Natural Dust Cleaner?

    Dust

    • Dust is that powdery, moveable white or gray film that quickly covers everything in your home. It is a combination of dirt, skin cells, pet dander, insect bits and dust mite waste that can attract and hold toxins in your home. Bacteria and germs also thrive in dusty environments. The average home produces up to 40 lbs. of dust in a single year, making it an ongoing battle to keep it at bay.

    Cloths

    • The cloth you choose may have much to do with your dusting success. Microfiber cloths actually attract dust, holding on to it until they are washed out. This makes them the ultimate in all-natural dust removal. Other cloths may appear to be wiping dust away, but they are doing just that, pushing it into a pile or releasing it into the air to be breathed in, rather than trapping it for disposal. Toss your microfiber cloths into the washing machine for cleaning and reuse.

    Water

    • Water is the ultimate dust removal product. You do not need sprays to pick up dust. Simply dampening an ordinary cloth attracts and holds dust until you can wash the cloth. If it is the pleasant scent you desire, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a spray bottle of water, and mist your dusting cloth with it. Lemon, vanilla or lavender are just a few of the pleasant scents available.

    Air Cleaning

    • You can minimize the amount of dust in your home by using a vacuum cleaner equipped with a HEPA filter. These filters are high efficiency particulate air filters, and can catch the tiniest molecules that an ordinary vacuum might miss. Having an air conditioner at work in your home also may reduce the amount of dust, as opposed to having the windows open allowing dust inside.

    Polishing

    • If part of your dust removal routine includes polishing the furniture, place a dab of olive oil or mayonnaise on your microfiber dust cloth, and buff it into wood surfaces. This moisturizes and conditions the wood and brings out its beautiful natural shine.
