- 1). Purchase the necessary supplies. Go to your local pet store and buy specialty toothpaste made for dogs and a rubber finger cap. You'll put this cap on the end of your finger to polish your dog's teeth.
- 2). Command your dog to sit. You might need another person to hold it still the first few times you polish its teeth.
- 3). Place a small amount of toothpaste on the rubber "bristles" of the finger cap. Get in a position that will allow you to reach all of of your dog's teeth.
- 4). Lift your dog's lip and use a circular motion to polish its teeth. Place your finger at a 45-degree angle and gently wipe away surface stains. Be sure to polish near the gum line and in the back of your dog's mouth because this is where problems usually start. Add more toothpaste as necessary.
- 5). Continue polishing, making sure each tooth is gone over. Repeat this process as often as your vet thinks necessary.
