How to Change the Oil in a Yamaha YFZ450

    • 1). Allow the vehicle to warm up for about 20 minutes. Put on a pair of latex gloves.

    • 2). Remove the skid plate, which is a large, triangular, aluminum plate attached on the underside of the vehicle about a quarter-inch thick. To catch the oil, place a pan under the Yamaha.

    • 3). Unscrew the bolts located under the engine case and behind the oil tank.

    • 4). Drain the oil from the tank and its case. Screw the bolts back on.

    • 5). Take out the filter and its cover by unscrewing it from the motor's right side, toward the front. The new filter seal should have a little bit of oil before putting it on.

    • 6). Reinstall the oil filter and its cover.

    • 7). Pour a third of a liter of oil into the case before you start putting it into the tank. Allow about 1.6 quarts of oil to be poured into the tank.

    • 8). Re-install the skid plate. Check the oil level by checking the dipstick. It should be at least an inch from the tank's opening.

    • 9). Watch for any leaks while starting the vehicle.
