Treatments for Severe Back Acne
- Salicylic acid is a popular ingredient in many acne cleansers and lotions for the face and for the body. It is fairly gentle, but works well in removing dirt and dead skin cells from the pores while drying up excess oil. It can be slightly drying, however, which means an oil-free moisturizer should be used as a part of your daily body cleansing regimen.
- Benzoyl peroxide is the most common ingredient used in acne cleansers for the face and body. It is strong and really zaps zits. It works by drying up excess oil on the skin and helping dead skin cells slough off faster. However, since it is so tough, it can be very drying on the skin. This can lead to redness, irritation and even peeling. Use an oil-free moisturizer after cleansing with a benzoyl peroxide-based cleanser to free these side effects. Be sure to also apply sunscreen, as benzoyl peroxide makes the skin extra sensitive to the sun.
- While most people apply creams and cleansers to the skin to get rid of troublesome back acne, there are some steps you can take to reduce your chances of a breakout. For instance, when you workout, wear cotton clothing that breathes well. If you really work up a sweat, be sure to change your clothes following the workout at the least. Preferably, you should shower following a workout, to remove excess sweat, oil and dirt. By performing these steps, you can reduce skin irritation and reduce your need for harsher chemical cleansers.
