While home consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are considered to be at the cutting edge of video game technology, in reality it's PC games that more often feature the latest graphics and innovative gameplay. Nearly every PC game features advanced online elements, allowing users to interact with other players from all over the world and to download updated content, allowing for gamers to open up new worlds within games they've already purchased. Moreover, numerous PC games have received top ratings from GameSpot, a top video game review website.

    Dragon Age: Origins

    • "Dragon Age: Origins" (Electronic Arts, $59.99 as of March 2010) is an online role-playing game from the makers of the popular "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" series. In the game, players become fully immersed in a world of fantasy and magic, selecting a character class and navigating through a world populated by other like-minded gamers. Gamers can form alliances and work together to gain experience points and loot caves and villages to acquire rare items. "Dragon Age" is also notable for its immersive storyline, which requires players to contemplate moral decisions.

    Mass Effect 2

    • "Mass Effect 2" (Electronic Arts, $59.99) is the space-shooting action-RPG to the 2006 hit "Mass Effect." The game is a genre-breaker; while it contains many role-playing game elements such as character leveling and in-depth storytelling, "Mass Effect 2" also features the fast-paced shooting action of popular games such as "Gears of War" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." Nearly every week, EA released downloadable content for the game, which opens up new planets and missions for players to complete.

    Left 4 Dead 2

    • "Left 4 Dead 2" (Valve, $49.99) is a zombie shooting game from the makers of the popular "Half-Life" series of games. While "Left 4 Dead 2" does feature an offline campaign mode, most of the gameplay takes place online, where players join forces with small teams to compete in a variety of deathmatch and cooperative modes. While the game is violent, it also contains a high level of intelligent humor and wit that is rarely found in the video game industry.

    Football Manager 2010

    • "Football Manager 2010" (Sega, $59.99) is a soccer simulation game that fully immerses players in the world of owning and managing a soccer club. Gamers have control over all aspects of their soccer team, ranging from selecting players and lineups to choosing the trim on stadium's seats. Much of the fun of the game is in developing talent and scouting the world for hidden soccer greats.
