How to Remove a Fuel Pick Up From a 1978 Ford Bronco
- 1). Put wheel chocks around the front axle and put the jack under the rear axle. Lift the rear of the Bronco with the jack and put the jack stands underneath the axle.
- 2). Position the jack underneath the gas tank, which is behind the rear axle. Put the wood block on the head of the jack, then lift up the jack until it touches the bottom of the tank.
- 3). Unbolt the gas tank straps from the frame with the 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and sockets. Disconnect the fuel lines and fuel filler neck to the tank with the flathead screwdriver, then pull the lines off of the tank. Unplug the wiring to the gas tank with your hands.
- 4). Lower the tank down from the frame with the jack. Pull the tank out from the back of the Bronco with the jack and then set the tank on the ground. Turn the locking ring on the fuel pickup tube counter clockwise using the brass drift and the brass hammer. Lift the fuel pickup tube out of the tank with your hands.
