How to Install Quarter Round Molding
- 1). Measure the length of the wall on which you wish to install quarter round molding.
- 2). Mark a piece of quarter round molding at the desired length.
- 3). Cut the length of quarter round molding along the pencil line.
- 4). Nail a finishing nail into the quarter round molding at 12-inch intervals.
- 5). Place the nail punch on the head of each finishing nail, and using a hammer pound the nail in so that it is below the surface of the wood.
- 6). Putty over the holes created by the nail punch to conceal them.
- 1). Cut a piece of quarter round molding to fit the wall, making it slightly longer than necessary so part of it sticks out beyond the wall where the corner is.
- 2). Mark the position of the corner on the back of the quarter round molding.
- 3). Cut the quarter round molding using a miter saw set at a 45-degree angle, going from the outside to the inside of the molding. Follow steps 2 and 3 for the piece of molding coming from the other way.
- 4). Nail the quarter round molding to the baseboard at 12-inch intervals.
- 5). Place the nail punch on the head of each finishing nail, and using a hammer pound the nail in so that it is below the surface of the wood.
- 1). The end of a piece of molding at a 45-degree angle.
- 2). Measure the length of molding you will need. Mark it with a pencil.
- 3). Cut the molding with a saw at the pencil mark, being sure not to cut the end on which you have cut the 45-degree angle.
- 4). Fit the quarter round molding into the corner, cut side facing upwards.
- 5). Nail the molding in at 12-inch intervals.
- 6). Place the nail punch on the head of each finishing nail, and using a hammer pound the nail in so that it is below the surface of the wood.
