How to Make Fake Flower Arrangements

    • 1). Line the bottom of your basket with newspaper. A single layer of newsprint will be enough; you are simply keeping the foam from escaping through the weave of the basket.

    • 2). Place floral foam into the basket, filling the bottom of the basket solidly. The amount of floral foam in the basket should be 1/2 inch lower than the edge of the basket. If necessary, trim your floral foam with a serrated knife or a craft knife.

    • 3). Cover the foam with Spanish moss. Also stuff moss into any crevices that might exist between the basket and the foam.

    • 4). Pin the moss to the foam with U-shaped floral pins. Use as many pins as it takes to make sure that the moss is secure.

    • 5). Sort your flowers by size. You'll need silk flowers twice the the height of the basket, and silk flowers that are shorter and wider.

    • 6). Create a base of shorter flowers around the edge of the basket, pushing their stems into the floral foam. These flowers should be flush against the edge of the basket. If you like a cheerful country look, you can also have the flowers spilling over the edge.

    • 7). Build up a pyramid of flowers from the base. Each flower added above the base should bring the structure in toward a narrow point. The tallest flowers will be the apex of the pyramid.

    • 8). Fill in any gaps with silk flowers that act as filler, like baby's breath or willow grass.
